RMH Charities SA Launches Ride for Sick Kids fundraiser

13 March 2023

Riders will travel from valley to valley for the first time

13 March 2023: This March, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) South Australia will host its 11th annual Ride for Sick Kids (RFSK) fundraising event, raising vital funds for seriously ill and injured children and their families.

From Sunday 26 March - Friday 1 April, a team of 17 riders will cycle over 1,000km with the aim of raising 1,000 nights of accommodation at a Ronald McDonald House (equivalent to $150,000).

RMHC is calling on South Australians to support the fundraiser by making a donation online with all funds raised going directly to the Ronald McDonald House in Adelaide.

Melissa Monkhouse, Executive Officer for RMHC South Australia, said, “Ride for Sick Kids has been an integral part of our fundraising efforts over the last 11 years, so we are thrilled to be welcoming it back once again.

“This year, riders will cycle from valley to valley across the South Australian wine region. Taking place throughout the vintage time, just like the farmers across the region, the riders will be hard at work helping to raise vital funds for seriously ill or injured children.

“We are calling on our incredible South Australian community to support the fundraiser by making a donation online. Every contribution helps us to continue to support seriously ill or injured children and their families.”

This year, the event will take place across the wine regions of South Australia, with riders travelling down south to the beautiful Second Valley to start the 7-day Valley to Valley ride before heading back to Adelaide.

Over the past 10 years, riders have clocked over 200,00 km’s on their bikes.

Ronald McDonald Charities is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children.

About Ronald McDonald House Charities

RMHC was originally based within the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in 1991. Following a major refurbishment, Ronald McDonald House became a stand-alone House in 2000 to assist families who live far away and require accommodation to be close to their child whilst receiving treatment at the hospital. Since then, the House has expanded its accommodation facilities to provide over 250 families a year, a ‘home away from home’ during challenging times. Families from remote and regional areas across Australia stay at RMHC SA free of charge, which provides them a warm, safe and secure place to stay.

Through our accommodation and support services, we strive to keep families together when life gets turned upside down due to a child’s injury or illness.
