21 June 2022, Australia1 March 2022: Local employees from McDonald’s restaurants across Tamworth are removing rubbish and cleaning up local areas this Wednesday 2 March to support Clean Up Australia Day, ahead of the national fundraiser on Sunday, March 6.

McDonald’s Australia has supported Clean Up Australia Day, the country’s largest community based environmental event, since its inception in 1989.

During this time, over 100,000 McDonald’s volunteers have participated in Clean Up Australia Day.

This year, over 2,100 volunteers from 217 restaurants across Australia have committed to cleaning up their local environments.

Adrian Sippel, McDonald’s Licensee, said: “As a local Tamworth business, we care about supporting our community and keeping waste out of our beautiful outdoor spaces.

“Macca’s has partnered with Clean Up Australia Day for 33 years and it’s great to see so many of our crew members continue to roll up their sleeves and help make a positive difference to our environment.

“We hope to see some of our customers, friends, family and other businesses out with their gloves and bags to support Clean Up Australia Day.”

Since 1989, McDonald’s Australia has provided more than $5 million in sponsorship funds to help Clean Up Australia continue their important work.

includes doing our part to keep waste out of nature.

Last year, we made the decision to phase-out plastic straws and cutlery from our restaurants, removing more than 860 tonnes of packaging from our system. From December this year, all Happy Meal toys in Australia will be plastic free or made from sustainable materials.

We’ve set goals to source 100% of our guest packaging from renewable, recycled or certified

sources, and to recycle guest packaging in 100% of McDonald’s restaurants, by 2025.
